Police in Gwinnett County have identified the body of the woman found Monday afternoon in the basement of a home in a usually quiet Suwannee neighborhood.

Gwinnett County Police said investigators identify the victim as 63-year-old Dorothy Ann D’Anna.

Detectives and crime scene investigators worked into the evening gathering evidence after a homeowner discovered D’Anna 's body in the basement of a home on Collins Port Cove. D’Anna was a tenant at the home.

"Something terrible happened, something terrible inside that house," neighbor Joshua Belcher said.

Belcher said the woman, who owns the home and had recently returned from an out-of-town trip, asked him to come with her to confirm her worst fears after she spotted what she believed was a body in the basement of the home where her tenant stayed.

Belcher said they found the unidentified woman's body covered by a pillow and covers in bed.

"A tragedy a tragedy Ms. Christine fell out in my arms I was trying to support her," Belcher said.

They called 911. Police called the D’Anna's death suspicious.

"The people that live upstairs left on the 6th of the month to go out of town they were on vacation they spoke to the resident downstairs it's a white female they spoke to her on the 9th the people that live upstairs came home on the 14th and went down today to check on her because they hey haven't heard from her in a while since the 9th and found her in that way," said Cpl. Wilbert Rundles, Gwinnett County Police Department.

While police work to determine what happened, Belcher said he's complained to the homeowner of frequent parties and suspicious activity at the home as recently as last week.

"I contacted the homeowner by text, telephone call. I told them that there was a party over there Monday very noisy, there was a party over there Wednesday," said Belcher.
