Police: Arsonist may have targeted officer's new home

An Atlanta police union representative says someone may have tried to burn down an officer's new home.

News outlets report investigators say someone threw a makeshift firebomb, including a rock and some liquid, through a window, causing a fire early Thursday morning in the home the officer had just bought.

Atlanta Police Union national representative Ken Allen told news outlets he thinks the officer was targeted because of her job.

The department is not releasing the name of the victim for her safety. They say her home was in the same community she is charged with protecting.

Atlanta police are investigating, and the police union says they are organizing a fundraiser to help the officer with damage costs.
