Police: 4-year-old taken from Georgia daycare by father found in NYC

- Police said the young girl taken from her Georgia daycare by her father and uncle was found safe in New York City Tuesday evening.

DeKalb County Police released a bulletin searching for 4-year-old Jimai Hill who was taken from her daycare on Aug. 3. Police said Jimai's father, Randall Hill, and uncle, George Lanier, visited the daycare an attempted to check the young girl out.

Hill, who has no custodial rights, was blocked from seeing Jimai because he was not listed as an "approved caregiver," police said. However, Lanier was on the list and checked Jimai out of the daycare. Police then said Lanier gave Jimai to Hill, who then told employees that the child would not be returning to the daycare.

Jimai's mother told police that she received a text from Hill a few hours later which said that he had Jimai and was already on a bus to New York.

Police said around 7 p.m. Tuesday, two people who saw the suspect’s picture on the news alerted officers who were able to take Hill into custody. Officers were able to locate the young girl a short time later with a woman on the mass transit train. She was checked out by paramedics and was released to the custody of New York City Administration for Children's Services who will be working with her mother on her safe return to Georgia.

Police said both men will likely be charged with interference with custody and kidnapping.
