One person dead following officer-involved shooting in College Park

A traffic stop at a College Park gas station turned deadly after shots rang out in the early hours of Sunday morning.

According to the GBI, around 2:20 a.m. a College Park Police Officer pulled over a car at the Exxon gas station on Camp Creek Parkway. Authorities say, the driver started fighting with the officer during a sobriety test.

The driver broke the officer's arm when the officer tried to taser them. Witnesses say suspect Leslie jumped back in his car and attempted to drive away, but crashed in front of the nearby Texaco gas station.

A short time later John Holt noticed the scene. "I just seen the car parked right there. It was straight with the bumper into the pole and the GBI and The East Point Police were here," Mr. Holt remarked.

The officer and driver were both taken to the hospital. Officials say the driver died from injuries

College Park Police Chief tells FOX 5's Aungelique Proctor, the officer underwent surgery on his broken Sunday at Grady. Chief Keith Meadows also says the officer suffered 3 lacerations to his skull.
