A mother and her infant child are dead after they were struck by a vehicle as they crossed a street in Woodstock over the weekend. A third person, a family friend who was also hit, remains hospitalized as result of her injuries.

Kaitlin Hunt was holding her infant baby when they were struck while crossing Arnold Mill Road the night of September 9.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said the baby died the night of the accident, and the 28-year-old mother passed away Tuesday evening as a result of her injuries.

Deputies said the third victim, Kathy Deming, is slowly recovering at a local hospital.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help raise money for Brandon Hunt, who is now mourning the loss of his wife and baby girl.

According to the GoFundMe page, Brandon and Kaitlin grew up in metro Atlanta and were high school sweethearts. They tied the knot in March 2016, and welcomed their daughter, Riley, to the world just three months ago.

The Hunts lived in Port St. Lucie, Florida and were forced to evacuate due to Hurricane Irma. They had just arrived in Woodstock to stay with family members on the day the deadly accident occurred.

"Brandon's whole life has been forever changed and will never be the same again," the GoFundMe page states. "He lost his only daughter/child and the love of his life since high school. It is possible he may also go back to Florida to find destruction of his home or possibly no home at all."

Loved ones are hoping donations will help ease Mr. Hunt's pain.

"Every penny and prayer counts and is much appreciated."
