Gwinnett County Police need help identifying a man wanted in connection with a road rage stabbing earlier this week.

On Monday, May 7, a person was stopped at a red light on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard near Little Mill Road in Sugar Hill when a man pulled up, stopped, and got out of his car. According to police, the man walked toward the victim's door, then stabbed the victim multiple times.

“We frequently hear about shootings or fist fights, but we really don't hear about stabbings in road rage incidents,” Sgt. Jake Smith, Gwinnett County Police Department.

Police said the victim, who is expected to survive, snapped a photo of the suspect's vehicle. On Friday, police released a surveillance image of the car, which is described as a blue early 2000s Mazda Protégé 5.

“We think it’s an early 2000 model Mazda Protégé, blue,” Smith said.

A witness to the bizarre incident, Jerry Kougioulis was driving down Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. When he hit Pine Street at around 7:30 Monday night he saw a man stumbling in the street.

“I thought I was looking at a drunk driver. I really did the way he staggered,” said Kougioulis.

When he went back to check on the guy, he found him collapsed on the ground, bloodied.

“I'm thinking what the heck, did he just get shot?” Kougioulis said.

It turns out the man had been stabbed in an apparent road rage incident. The victim told Kougioulis, the attacker got out his car.

“Opened his door, he thought the guy was punching him and didn't realize he was being stabbed until he felt it,” said Kougioulis.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Gwinnett County Police Department at 770-513-5300. Crime Stoppers is offering up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest.
