A Gwinnett County man has been sentenced to five years in prison for a debt collection fraud that cheated 6,000 victims nationwide.

John Todd Williams was sentenced in Federal Court Thursday.

Prosecutors said he stole millions of dollars through his Norcross-based debt collection company, tricking people with false threats and lies.

His company, Williams, Scott and Associates, also known as Warrant Services Association, ran the scam from 2009 to May 2014.

Williams was also ordered to pay nearly $4 million in restitution to his victims.
