Georgia Lottery reaches education milestone after record-breaking quarter

- After a record-breaking first quarter, the Georgia Lottery has reached a milestone in its support for the state’s educational programs.

The first-quarter amount transferred to the Georgia Treasury’s Lottery for Education Account will amount to $290.45 million, over $16 million more than the record-setting amount from the same period last year. With that big payout, the lottery has now raised more than $19 billion for educational programs in Georgia since it was established in 1993.

“The $19 billion generated by the Georgia Lottery has provided the HOPE scholarship to more than 1.8 million college students and offered access to lottery-funded Pre-K programs for more than 1.4 million 4-year-olds,” Gov. Nathan Deal said in a statement. “The ongoing success of the Georgia Lottery is a major component of ensuring each child in Georgia attains a quality education from start to finish.”

Last fiscal year, the Georgia Lottery raised a record $1.1 billion for scholarships, grants and educational programs.
