Foundation designates Atlanta as 2nd city in opportunity zones initiative

Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms announced a new federal opportunity zones initiative for the city of Atlanta on Wednesday.

The Rockefeller Foundation says the initiative -- which launched in May -- aims to help cities attract reasonable private investment in communities.

The city is set to receive $920,000 in grants to establish and fund a chief opportunity zone officer embedded in invest Atlanta, the city of Atlanta’s Economic Development Authority.

Atlanta is the second city to participate in the initiative.
