Former DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis released from prison

ATLANTA - Former DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis is out of prison. 

Ellis was released from Coastal State Prison in Chatham County on Tuesday. He began serving his term on charges of perjury and attempted theft by extortion last July. 

The case stemmed from accusations Ellis pressured county vendors to make contributions to his 2012 reelection campaign. 

Ellis has maintained his innocence.
