Investigators said Thursday they need the community's help after someone shot two people inside a car, killing a teenager.

According to the Newton County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a report of shots fired outside a home on Greenway Drive in unincorporated Covington just after 11:15 Wednesday night. They discovered two people--a male and a female--who had been shot multiple times inside a car.

The Newton County coroner pronounced the male victim, Quintin Martin, 16, dead at around 1 a.m.

"I still can't believe it now that he's gone," said Roddrick Foster, Martin's father.

Foster said his son worked at a nearby Zaxby's and his manager drove him home after his shift. The two were sitting in her car outside Martin's home when the shots rang out. She was taken to an Atlanta hospital where she was treated and released, Foster explained.

Newton County investigators said they are not sure whether the shooting was random or if the shooter targeted Martin and the female victim.

"We're trying to find out who did this.  This is a 16-year-old male who lost his life," said Newton County Deputy Michael Gregg.

They ask anyone with information on the case to call the Newton County Sheriff's Office or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS.
