Deputy Saves Family from Burning Home on Thanksgiving

- A Union County deputy has been hailed a hero after saving two people from a house fire on Thanksgiving. Deputy Shane Burnette was patrolling on Town Creek School Road Thursday morning when he spotted smoke and flames coming from a home. That's when instinct kicked in.

"Deputy Burnette contacted dispatch and made his way to the home and started beating on the exterior walls. He got the attention of the resident and was able to remove him through a window," said the Union County Sheriff's Office on Facebook.

Deputy Burnette went back to the burning home and found a 14-year-old girl. He was able to safely remove her.

"His heroic actions saved two lives that day. We at Union County Sheriffs Office are Thankful to have Shane on board with us. He also serves his country in the Army Reserve for the past 25 years."

The Sheriff's Office said Burnette had a very humble response to what he did.

"The good Lord put me in the right place at the right time."
