A man is in police custody after witnesses said he shot and killed another man in the middle of a busy intersection Wednesday afternoon.

According to the DeKalb County Police Department, it happened at around noon on Glenwood Avenue near Candler Road. Officers said a man was in the parking lot of the ATL Wings restaurant when a man in a black pickup truck pulled up, got out and started firing.

"The victim began to run across Glenwood [Avenue] here at which time he took a shot and went down," said DeKalb Police Lt. Lonzy Robertson. "The male suspect then walked over to the victim and fired several more rounds into the victim before getting back into his truck and leaving."

Police said many people witnessed the shooting because the area is part of a busy business district.

"We saw everything through the window," said a woman named Rocke, who runs a hair salon at the intersection and who did not want to share her last name. "I was in the back of the store and I heard the first gunshot. As I got to the front window, I heard the second gunshot and I saw the guy on the ground. We watched the man walk over to him and empty out on him until he had no more shots."

Witnesses said the shooter calmly returned to his truck and took off down Glenwood Avenue. A witness saw what happened and followed the man until police could stop him.

"He wanted to make sure that we got that vehicle tag and were able to catch up to that vehicle. So, that was very brave of him to do so," explained Lt. Robertson.

Police have not yet released the names of the victim nor the shooter.
