City of Atlanta to stop receiving ICE detainees

Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms has signed an executive order to permanently stop the city's corrections department from receiving ICE detainees.

The order also directs the corrections chief to formally request that ice officials transfer "all current detainees" as soon as possible.

The city originally entered into an agreement with the U.S. Marshals Service in March 2010 which allowed the housing of ice detainees. But Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said it's time for a change.

The city currently has five detainees housed in the jail.
