Bodycam video: Foot chase for possible gunman

DULUTH, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - Body camera video from Duluth Police officers shows the urgent search for a possible gunman through a local neighborhood. 

Police said the manhunt occurred on March 15, after police said a thief brandished what appeared to be a handgun outside the Wal-Mart on Pleasant Hill Road. 

Police said 27-year-old Earl Purnell was approached by loss prevention officers and brandished the possible weapon, sending employees running for cover. Officers later learned that device was a BB gun that was stolen from inside the store. 

Body camera video shows how officers pursued the suspect through a woodline and into a nearby apartment complex off Paces Commons Drive, deploying K9 Officer Frommel to aid in the search. 

"[The officer] demanded him to come out of the forest, he didn't do so. It is a danger to the suspect, it is a danger the community, and to the officers themselves," said Officer Ted Sadowski. 

The video shows the eventual capture inside the apartment complex. Police said they were glad that no one was hurt in the pursuit. 

Purnell was charged with Simple Assault and Shoplifting.
