DeKalb County Investigators say the body of the man found dead wrapped in plastic, is that of 23-year-old Steven Blevins. His mother, Portia Blevins saw our story Tuesday, and learned the man found was her son Friday night. Detectives had her identify her son through pictures. Blevins says her son has a tattoo of her name across his neck and “family first” on his hands.

DeKalb County Police said the gruesome discovery was made around 8 a.m. Tuesday off Warriors Path and Flat Shoals Parkway. Police said a sanitation worker on the job discovered the body near the roadside. Residents said detectives combed the scene for hours off Warriors Path and shut down the roadway on the bridge over the South River.

Investigators could on Tuesday only describe the deceased person as an African-American male and could not estimate their age. Just a day later, they were able to make a positive identification but said because of the nature of the case, investigators did not want to yet release it.

The DeKalb County Medical Examiner's Office said the man died from apparent gunshot wounds. Investigators said the man was shot several times.

Neighbors told FOX 5 that the area was shut down for some time and that they're concerned for their safety.

Blevins family members have set up a GoFundMe to help with burial costs.
