Atlanta police make arrests in crime spree

A robbing crime spree in Atlanta has ended after an arrest of three suspects, according to Atlanta Police.

Officers arrested Corey Hunter, Cedric Champion Jr. and Isaiah Gibson early Wednesday in northeast Atlanta.

The group is accused of robbing a man, Derrick Martin, at gunpoint at an ATM at Wells Fargo on Cheshire Bridge Road.

Martin spoke with FOX 5's Marissa Mitchell Friday. He said two of the suspects ran towards him, before demanding his cash. He said they also stole his phone before driving off. Martin ran to a nearby gas station to call police. And according to an incident report obtained by FOX 5, the responding officer called Martin's phone, meanwhile a patrol officer heard it ringing in the suspects' vehicle during a stop two blocks down the road.

"I'm happy they caught the guys because people don't need to be out here doing this stuff. You work hard every day for what you own," Martin said.

Sgt. Warren Pickard with Atlanta Police said detectives found more than 14 other items in the crew's car, including drone equipment, gaming devices and cell phones. Mitchell learned one of the recovered phones belonged to a victim of an armed robbery at a gas station just hours before the incident at the Wells Fargo.

Pickard said, along with the victim's call, the department's change in its Robbery Unit helped tie the investigation together. Instead of working at different precincts, they all work together in an office at headquarters allowing them to connect the dots more swiftly.

"These are young males, like barely 17 years old out committing crimes...it is just something we can't tolerate," Pickard said.
