DALTON, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - A big burglary bust in Dalton has far-reaching implications in metro Atlanta
Investigators said a mother and daughter duo were part of a foursome involved in stealing clothes from numerous stores. Now police are trying to figure out where some of the merchandise was stolen from.
“So basically you’re talking about a lot of clothing, a lot of brand name,” said Bruce Frazier with the Dalton Police Department.
He said a clothing theft ring was busted wide open when police moved in on a black Challenger not far from Kohl’s minutes after officers responded to a burglary in progress call Tuesday afternoon.
“We were able to recover all of the property from Kohl’s, the problem is we found a whole lot of other stuff in their car,” said Frazier.
Evidence photos show numerous piles of stolen high-end clothing.
Investigators said about 75 percent of the clothes came from Victoria’s Secret, TJ Max, Old Navy, and other stores.
“At least the Old Navy and Victoria’s Secret locations we don’t have those in Dalton so they came from some else. We’re still trying to investigate whether they were in Atlanta whether in points south.
Three women and a man were arrested.
Police said 41-year-old Jennifer Mayes and 23-year-old Myiesha Mayes are mother and daughter and that all for are from Nashville.
All four have already bonded out of jail on bonds of $5,000 or less.
“It’s just like a slap on the wrist they just bonded out, they probably made more money than what that bond cost,” said Gage Farmer, a Dalton resident.
Dalton Police aren’t sure how long this clothing theft ring has been at work but they are asking merchants to check merchandise and surveillance.
“If you recognize these suspects or if you realize you’ve had a shoplifting incident. We’d like to get in touch with you and see if this is your merchandise,” said Frazier.
He said the burglary crew made money by either selling the stolen clothes on the black market or returning clothes to other stores for gift cards which they would also sell.
