25 arrested in illegal street racing crackdown in Clayton County
CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. - Twenty-five people were arrested in Clayton County following an illegal street racing crackdown at a business park on Tradeport Drive.
The operation, conducted by the Clayton County Police Department and the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office, played out near Airline Museum Way.
According to a news release, authorities arrived at the location shortly after midnight. Several gathered vehicles attempted to flee, driving over curbs and through wooded areas.
Authorities made 25 physical arrests, impounded 16 vehicles, handed out five traffic-related citations and seized six weapons.
No drag racing arrests were made due to the crowd only being gathered and not actively racing, authorities said. One person observed to be performing “burnouts” in the parking lot was cited for criminal damage to property.
Authorities said crowds of people flock to this area to watch and perform illegal street racing, which has caused more than $30,000 in property damage.
They say this operation is one of many planned to curb illegal street racing in the county.

Investigators hope these arrests will help put a stop to the street racing.
"Hopefully, this message will be sent clearly that we're not going to tolerate it in Clayton County. Your vehicle will be impounded and you will go to jail," said Capt. Ibbarando. "It's going to start costing you money to come out here and do illegal activities."
