Sending mom a Mother's Day text

Sunday is Mother's Day and Americans are going to shell out big bucks telling mom just how much she's appreciated.

Twenty-one billion dollars worth, to be exact! According to the National Retail Federation, that's about $173 per mother.

Most people will at least get their mom a card or gift card and flowers are popular too. The most popular high-ticket item is brunch or dinner out.

But what if you can't be with your mother on Mother's Day? According to a RetailMeNot survey, most people will call or send a card. However, a growing number of people say it's acceptable to send Mother's Day wishes via text or post a message on Facebook.
