2 dead after overnight head-on collision in DeKalb County

DEKALB COUNTY - Two people are dead after a head-on collision shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday. Police say it happened on Fairington Road near Willowick Drive in DeKalb County.

The initial investigation by DeKalb County police indicated that a male driver in his 20s attempted to pass another vehicle when he struck a car driving the opposite direction head-on. The driver of the car he hit was a male in his 50s. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim also had a passenger in his 60s who was critically injured in the crash.

The driver in his 20s and the victim's passenger were both transported to an area hospital. Police say the man in his 20s died at the hospital. The passenger is still in critical condition.

The crash remains under investigation.

None of the people involved in the crash have been identified.
