ATLANTA (FOX 5 Atlanta) - Thursday brought record-shattering temperatures to north Georgia. And now, a cold front sweeps through to bring temperatures back to normal Februrary levels for Friday and the weekend.
Thursday's high temperature of 80 degrees was well beyond the previous record of 72 degrees from 1937. In addition, it was the earliest date in the year of an 80 degree temperature in Atlanta. And it was the third time that we've ever hit 80 degrees in February. We usually average our first 80 degree day in mid to late March.
For Friday, a cold front passing through in the morning will sweep a few light showers through, with colder air to follow as winds pick up out of the northwest to 10-20 mph. Temperatures will likely drop to their lowest point by noon. Overall, temperatures are simply returning to average for Friday and most of the weekend. That will mean colder nights in the 30s, too.
