Police: Director of addiction treatment program arrested, in possession of oxycodone pills

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Fla. - An Atlanta doctor and prominent addiction specialist was arrested in Florida and charged with drug trafficking and battery, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

Dr. Michael Fishman was arrested May 11 after deputies received a domestic disturbance call to a home on St. George Island, according to a post on the Sheriff’s office Facebook page.

According to the arrest report, Fishman admitted to officers he pushed his daughter and knocked her to the ground as they struggled over a bag of pills. Fishman’s wife told the officers her husband “has a drug abuse problem.”

Deputies found Dr. Fishman in possession of 81 oxycodone pills, weighing approximately 10 grams, according to the sheriff's office Facebook post.

Fishman is the Director of the Young Adult Program at Talbott Recovery, an Atlanta substance abuse treatment facility. The CEO of the facility, Steve Manning, confirmed to FOX 5 News that Fishman is currently on administrative leave.

After the arrest, Dr. Fishman was admitted to a treatment facility in Florida, according to Franklin County Sheriff A.J. Smith.
