CARNESVILLE, Ga. - A suspect was killed in a shooting involving a northeast Georgia deputy late Sunday night.
The Franklin County Sheriff told FOX 5 News deputies responded to a domestic incident on Roberts Lane just after 10 p.m. Sunday night in Carnesville.
When they arrived on the scene officials say they found one person with a gunshot wound and learned that others were in a home who were likely injured.
According to investigators, the suspect, 54-year-old Martin resident James Brian Kay, came out of the home and started shooting at the deputies with a shotgun. One officer returned fire, shooting and killing Kay.
Inside the home, deputies found three adults suffering from serious gunshot wounds. Two were flown to a hospital in Greenville, South Carolina. The other victim was taken by ambulance. An 11-year-old child inside the home had hidden and had been not been shot.
No deputies were injured during the shooting.
At the time, deputies had blocked off access to the dead end road. The Georgia Bureau of Investigatgion has been brought in to handle the investigation into the shooting.
Carnesville is located about 90 miles northeast of Atlanta.
