AMS opening camping facilities to Hurricane Michael evacuees

- Atlanta Motor Speedway is opening its camping facilities to Hurricane Michael evacuees.

The available AMS facilities will be the same as they were for evacuees during Hurricane Florence last month.

The campgrounds are equipped to handle thousands of campers during the track's annual NASCAR weekend and will be made available free of charge for dry RV and tent campers in the Legends Campground. If you’re interested, enter the facility at Entrance “E” off of Ga. Highway 19/41. The Legends Campground is on the right.

"We reached out to the county emergency management agency just to get some recommendations on what they felt we should be expecting. And they didn't see any reason at this point not to. And it's something that we've gotten a lot of calls and people have just heard about it from what we've done over the past couple years and definitely, calling and saying 'Hey, are you doing it again? I need a place to go.' We have a lot of space and the infrastructure and ability to be able to handle people and said 'Yeah, we'll be glad to open up and provide you somewhere that you can come,'" said Dustin Bixby, Vice President of Marketing and Promotions at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

A limited number of camping spaces with water, power, and sewer will also be available for $20 per night in the Premier Campground.

AMS will also open the Rinnai Shower Station camper bathhouse, which will allow evacuees free access to hot showers and restroom facilities.

During Hurricane Irma, the lots at AMS were filled with evacuees. Tuesday, the lot slowly started to fill.
