Flooding in southwest Atlanta

Just a couple of hours of rain can make matters very challenging at the Pavilion Place apartments on Cleveland Avenue in southwest Atlanta .As soon as the rain starts to fall, the water quickly starts to rise.

"The water comes up a foot high sometimes and comes all the way into the hallways from the parking lot. This whole parking lot just holds the water," said 4-year resident Vincent Smith.

Residents told FOX 5's Portia Bruner the water level rises several inches an hour as long as it's raining. They say they frequently have to deal with standing water in their homes and vehicles.

"This is so frustrating. Every time it rains, we go through this- water up to our legs, walking around in mud. It's just ridiculous," LaShonda Williams said.

Maintenance workers did what they could to clear storm drains and a woman from the leasing office said new management is doing what they can to stop the drainage drama.

Roads close as heavy rains move into metro

Elsewhere, streams, creeks and rivers quickly rose in the areas that received the heaviest downpours Wednesday morning. A number of roads were forces to shut down.

Heavy rain also caused major traffic delays Wednesday morning. Good Day Atlanta's Mark Teichner was barely moving on Interstate 75 and shared video on Twitter as traffic finally picked back up.

Metro Atlanta has been cleared from severe storm risk, but lingering rain will continue to move east. As the day goes on we could even see some slivers of sunshine.

The FOX 5 Storm Team says rain won't return in the next couple of days. Take a look at what it was like for the metro area this morning:
