A suspect is now in custody after shooting his ex-girlfriend in her head, Suwannee Police said.

On Wednesday morning at around 8 a.m., police say 30-year-old Nathanieo Pinkins went to Quality Technologies on the 300 block of Satellite Boulevard, his ex-girlfriend's place of employment.

Pinkins then shot at the woman's car multiple time while she was in it, hitting her in the head, police said.

"Pinkins approached her vehicle, shot multiple times in her vehicle striking her one time. She managed to back up and get away from the scene, go to another location and call for help," said Suwanee Police Captain Cass Mooney.

Medics rushed the victim to a nearby hospital.

No one at Quality Technologies would go on camera, but police said Pinkins and the victim were estranged.

"They have at least one child together.  They are no longer a couple so they were going through some sort of domestic issues."

Suwanee Police said their agency had no prior interaction with the estranged couple.

"No we had no prior knowledge of any of this going on. In speaking with family members we didn't get any indication at that point that anything else had happened," said Captain Mooney.

Detectives initially suspected Pinkins might be headed to Mississippi. Police later confirmed they were able to find Pinkins after a few hours later inside his vehicle about 30 miles away, in this shopping center parking lot off Centerville Highway. He appeared to have suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

He was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center and was listed in stable condition as of early Wednesday evening.
