ATLANTA - Atlanta Police released a sketch of a robber they call dangerous and said he fired a shot at a woman who tried to prevent him from taking off with her purse and her car.
Police said the violent encounter happened on the evening of June 1 around the intersection of Ralph McGill Boulevard and Garden Park Drive.
Police said as the victim got out of her car, the suspect ambushed her, pushed her to the ground and stole her car keys, purse and phone. As the suspect tried to get in and take off with her car, investigators said the woman fought to get her things back.
A witness told FOX 5 News, she heard the woman screaming and rushed to help.
"She's fighting with him to get out of the car, and yelling,'Give it back, give it back,'" said the witness. "I could see there was a gun. I'm yelling at her,'Get away, he's got a gun,'" she said, who then told FOX 5 she saw the man fire a shot into the ground before he drove off in her vehicle.
Police said the 2016 White Acura had still not been recovered.
"She could have been injured. An innocent bystander could have been injured as well. Certainly somebody dangerous, somebody we'd like to get off the streets," said Sgt. John Chafee with Atlanta Police.
Anyone with information on the man in the sketch is asked to call Atlanta Police. Tipsters can also contact Crime Stoppers at 404-477-TIPS and remain anonymous, as you can get a reward for tips leading to an arrest.
