East Point police officer arrested after SWAT standoff

An officer with the East Point Police Department has been arrested after a SWAT situation in Newnan.

According to Newnan police, officers were called to a burglary in progress at a home on the 400 block of Hunterian Place.

When they got to the home, police say they saw the suspect, identified as Robert Gray, still inside. Officials say Gray refused to speak to officers and stayed in the home.

After five hours, SWAT negotiators were able to get Gray to surrender.

Gray was arrested on a charge of first-degree burglary, with more charges expected.

After his arrest, officials discovered Gray was employed with the East Point Police Department. His current employment status is not known. He remains in custody in Coweta County.
