Georgia's future Broadway stars shine at annual awards show

One day, they’ll be sweeping up Tony Awards on Broadway.  But while they’re still in high school, Georgia’s most talented young artists get the chance to sing, shine, and hopefully win at the annual Shuler Hensley Awards.

The 10th Annual Shuler Hensley Awards will take place on Thursday, April 19th at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, beginning at 7:00 p.m.  The awards celebrate the best of high school musical theatre, and feature competitive categories including Best Leading Actor and Actress, Best Ensemble, and Best Musical; winners of Leading Actor and Actress go on to compete at the National High School Musical Theatre Awards, The Jimmy Nederlander Awards.  The Shuler Hensley Awards are named after Marietta native Shuler Hensley, who won a Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle Award for his performance as Jud Fry in Oklahoma!  The awards are presented by the ArtsBridge Foundation, which is the educational component of the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, and will be broadcast live on Georgia Public Broadcasting.

Good Day Atlanta’s Paul Milliken spent the morning at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre meeting some of the talented young nominees and chatting with Shuler Hensley himself!
