Atlanta gets hotter thanks to Southern Wing Showdown

Are you a fan of hot wings?  Oh, who are we kidding – of course you are!  Well, a tasty event happening later this summer will put chefs from across the Southeast to the test to see whose wings can soar to the top!

The 3rd annual Springer Mountain Farms Southern Wing Showdown is happening Sunday, August 5th at The Fairmont, a 19,000-square foot event space located at 1429 Fairmont Ave NW in Atlanta’s Westside neighborhood.  The event, produced by Taste of Atlanta, is basically the Olympics of wings, pitting chefs from the region against each other in a head-to-head (or is that wing-to-wing?) battle for best wing, all using Springer Mountain Farms chicken.  This year’s event also serves as a fundraiser for Angel Flight, an organization which provides flights to patients in need of medical care, and Second Helpings Atlanta, which fights hunger in the city.  Along with the competition, the event will feature cooking demos, games, live music, and cocktails.

General admission tickets are available for purchase online now, and currently cost $45 (through July 1st, after which the price increases to $50).  There are also “VIP First Taster” tickets available for purchase.

Good Day Atlanta’s Paul Milliken couldn’t wait for August, so he spent the morning with three of our area’s top chefs – Jeremy Fisher of Ladybird Grove & Mess Hall, Christian Perez of City Pharmacy, and Archna Becker of bhojanic – and put them to the test of creating a wing hot enough to make him cry on live television!
