11 Georgia sites added to historic register

Eleven new properties have been added to the Georgia Register of Historic Places — including the historic 220 Sunset Avenue in Atlanta, once home to civil rights leaders Dr. Irene Dobbs Jackson and Rev. Maynard Jackson Sr. Our own Chris Rosenthal reports the additions highlight state efforts to preserve Georgia’s rich historic and civil‑rights legacy. Local group Westside Future Fund helped nominate 220 Sunset Avenue, a landmark tied to the family of Atlanta’s first Black mayor. Also, on the register we see Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s house where he lived with his family.
