DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - A DeKalb County neighborhood is back to normal after a standoff which lasted for several hours Friday afternoon. Police believed a man was barricaded in his ex-girlfriend's house, refusing to come out, but when police entered, he wasn’t there.
It happened at a home on Emerald Glen. SWAT members swarmed the area and the neighborhood was shut down after a woman reported that her ex-boyfriend was there with a gun.
Officers said a 37-year-old man snatched the cell phone from his 19-year-old ex-girlfriend. She quickly realized he had a gun on his hip. She ran to a neighbor’s house and called police while he ran to her house and barricaded himself inside.
Negotiators tried to spend the afternoon reaching the man. SWAT members even throw in gas canisters. Police eventually made their way into the home to find out he wasn’t even there.
Police believe the man had a prior felony conviction. It is not clear what the charges.
