Police are warning people with pet doors after a string of daylight break-ins in Midtown Atlanta on Tuesday.

At least four homes in one block on Myrtle Street were hit.

Todd Ervin said it was mid-morning when his wife looked out the kitchen window and saw a stranger looking back at her from inside her sunroom. She screamed, called the police and the man took off running, hopping over the backyard fence.

Ervin said the man got in through the doggy door. Ervin said he either crawled through it, or managed to reach his hand through and unlock the door. Now he's trying to figure out what to do with his dog, Bama.

"I don't know if there's a more secure doggy door you can get, or we're just going to have to change our lifestyle with Bama," said Ervin.

The same nimble crook may be responsible for the other break-ins on the street.

Grace Lopez said someone broke out a small window at her house and squeezed through.

"We have a French door on the side, and they just broke the bottom window, and they literally crawled in," said Lopez.

Once inside, the crook ransacked her bedroom and took everything in sight.

"They took away a lot of jewelry and money. They even took my spouse's beard trimmer," said Lopez.

Neighbors gathered on the sidewalk Tuesday evening. They said they've all been battling the crime in Midtown over the past several months. They're once again talking about how best to protect their homes and each other.

Police describe the burglar as being a man in his late to early 50s with a slim build, grey hair, and weighing between about 6 feet, 2 inches to 6 feet, 4 inches tall.

Anyone who has any information regarding the burglaries is asked to call Atlanta Police or Crime Stoppers.
