Police across Metro Atlanta and into Alabama are investigating a man as a possible suspect in a number of sex crimes, after Sandy Springs Police arrested the man for a violent sexual assault in their city.

Authorities tell FOX 5, their investigation into 48-year-old Alabama resident Matthew Moore has them reviewing cases "going back over 10 years."

Moore is also a former correctional officer with the Alabama Department of Corrections; he was arrested Friday while on the job at the St. Clair State Correctional Facility, authorities said.

Moore is currently at the Fulton County Jail and is being held without bond for charges of aggravated sodomy, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, aggravated assault with intent to rape, false imprisonment, and two counts of aggravated assault.

"We also believe there may still be victims that have not yet come forward," said Sgt. Samuel Worsham, who said several Metro law enforcement agencies are looking at the possibility he committed crimes in their area. More charges are pending the final results of DNA testing, police said.

In Alabama, Jefferson County deputies tell FOX 5 two local agencies are also investigating Moore.

Moore lived in a trailer very close to the correctional facility in St. Clair County, and had worked for the Alabama DOC since 2001, authorities said.

When asked by if Moore ever used his law enforcement position to commit any crimes, state officials only responded with a public statement about the arrest that read, " Moore immediately resigned from his position at the time of his arrest.  No additional information is being released on the case at this time pending an ongoing investigation," the press release read.

Police are asking anyone who believes they may have been a victim of sexual assault or attempted assault to please come forward and talk with Detective Will Johnson at 770-551-3314.
