LILBURN, Ga. - Residents of Lilburn are divided on whether or not a mosque should be able to build a new worship center and expand its parking lot.
The mosque sits on the corner of Hood Road and Lawrenceville Highway. Neighbors said the current plans for its expansion include more than 150 new parking spaces with exits onto a residential street.
The extra traffic is what they say they’re opposed to.
Other residents say this is discriminatory against the mosque because the city changed its zoning laws to specifically inhibit this development.
The Mayor of Lilburn said during a City Hall meeting Monday night that there will be more discussion and public comment before any construction moves forward.
