Investigators said five people were confronted by the gunman inside the restaurant on Northside Drive around 6 a.m.

According to police, the armed robber was seen pacing in the parking lot before coming inside the restaurant. Once inside, he went into the bathroom, then came out wearing an "angry clown mask" and demanded wallets and keys from the patrons, before grabbing the register.

Police said one of the victims threw his keys at the suspect.

Investigators said as the suspect was fleeing, he fired two shots back toward the restaurant, striking one of the victims in the neck. The victim, a man, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital alert, conscious and breathing.

Police said the suspect, a black male, took off in one victim's white Mercury Grand Marquis with Georgia tag PLU-7199. Authorities later found the vehicle abandoned on Georgia Tech's campus.

Investigators are hoping Waffle House surveillance videos and security cameras along Georgia Tech's campus will help lead them to more answers.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Atlanta Police Department.
