Tornado warning issued for Georgia counties

The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning early Tuesday afternoon for West central Rockdale County, Southwestern DeKalb County, Northwestern Henry County until 2 p.m.

At 136 PM, severe thunderstorms capable of producing both tornadoes and extensive straight line wind damage were located over Forest Park, or near Jonesboro, moving east at 40 mph.

The warning area includes Jonesboro, Stockbridge, Forest Park, Riverdale, Morrow, Lake City, Lake Spivey, Rex, Ellenwood, Hidden Valley Park, Fort Gillem, Panola Mountain State Park, and Conley.

FOX 5 Storm Team Chief Meteorologist David Chandley advises people in the warning area to take care now. Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
