Severe Weather Preparedness Week

Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Georgia begins today, and that means it is time to get ready in the event of severe weather affecting you and your family.

Today is Family Preparedness Day and focuses on the things that you and your family need to do ahead of time to be prepared.

The first thing you want to do is prepare a kit that contains items that will help you ride out a disaster. At the bare minimum your kit should include enough food and water to last up to 72 hours for each family member and pet.

The second is to have a plan. Know what to do in the event of an emergency, and know where your safe place is. Have a place to meet picked out in case of family members become separated.

Last but not least have a way to get watches and warnings when they are issued. Our FOX 5 Storm Team App can be a life saver and is a free download to your smartphone. Here is a link in case you need it: fox5atlanta.com/storm

I also encourage you to visit the National Weather Service website for more tips and links: weather.gov/ffc/family_plan
