UGA football player arrested, charged with a felony

A University of Georgia football is facing felony charges after being arrested on Tuesday in Athens.

Latavious Brini was taken into custody at the Athens-Clarke County jail shortly after 6 p.m. on Tuesday and was released around 9:23 p.m. that same day on a $5,700 bond, according to the Clarke County Sheriff's office.

Brini is a freshman defensive back, but is headed for a redshirt this season after a preseason hamstring injury kept him from playing in the 2017 regular season.

This marks the third UGA football player arrest since the team won the SEC title on December 2 in Atlanta.

Wide receiver Jayson Stanley and Linebacker Natrez Patrick were arrested a few hours after the SEC Championship game in Barrow County.

Patrick was charged with marijuana possession and could be kicked off the team since this is his third violation of the UGA athletic drug and alcohol policy.

Stanley faces charges of DUI-drugs and speeding. According to school policy, he could be suspended for two games.

Coach Kirby Smart said on December 3, "We still don't have all the information completely in." University of Georgia athletic officials have not announced any status updated for Patrick or Stanley since that time.
