ATHENS, Ga. - Georgia football's trip to the Rose Bowl will not be their first. The Dogs played UCLA there for the national championship back in 1943, that was during World War II! Only a few around here remember that one!
The granddaddy of them all was only 29 years old then, but it was one memorable trip to Southern California!
About 75 years ago the Georgia Bulldogs were fresh off a conference championship and headed to the Rose Bowl to play UCLA.
The mode of travel: Train. Three days later, they toured Los Angeles and met with movie stars, some real, and some "not-so-real."
A brief practice at the Rose Bowl looks more like a couple of fraternity's playing a pick-up game
Georgia went on to win the national championship and the pave the way for a new group of Bulldogs to make their own history in a little over three weeks from now.
