ATHENS, Ga. - Georgia’s new football coach will keep two key members of the defensive coaching staff, but reports indicate another assistant will join former Coach Mark Richt’s staff.
In a news release Tuesday, new Coach Kirby Smart announced he will retain current defensive line coach Tracy Rocker and outside linebackers coach Kevin Sherrer.
Both Rocker and Sherrer have been on the UGA staff for the past 2 seasons.
Before arriving in Athens, Rocker spent 3 seasons with the NFL’s Tennessee Titans. Before that, the Atlanta native coached at his alma-mater, Auburn, where he won the Outland and Lombardi Trophies as an All-American player in the late 1980’s.
Sherrer who is a native of Alabama is currently serving as Georgia’s interim Defensive Coordinator for the TaxSlayer Bowl.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and other outlets have reported running backs coach Thomas Brown who was also retained by Smart will now join Richt at Miami.
Brown, who played for Georgia from 2004-2007, has been back in Athens for only one year as running backs coach after making the move from Wisconsin.
The AJC also reports interim Head Coach Bryan McClendon, interim Offensive Coordinator John Lilly and other staffers have been offered positions on the Miami staff.
