Potential Coaching Candidates at UGA

Here's a look at some of the potential candidates to succeed Mark Richt as head coach at UGA:

  • Dan Mullen - Mullen is currently head coach at Mississippi State University, where he has served since 2009. Mullen has a 54-35 record as a head coach. He took his team to the Orange Bowl at the end of the 2014 season.
  • Kirby Smart - Smart is now defensive coordination at Alabama. He's a UGA graduate, starring as a defensive back for the Bulldogs from 1995 to 1998. He started his coaching career as an administrative assistant at UGA, and returned to Athens to coach running backs for one year in 2005. Smart was named Assistant Coach of the Year in 2012 by the American Football Coaches Association.
  • Jimbo Fisher - Fisher is head coach at Florida State University. In six years at FSU, Fisher has a 68-13 record, and won the BCS National Championship in 2013. Fisher succeeded the legendary Bobby Bowden at Florida State. His name was linked to the LSU job, until the Tigers decided to retain Les Miles for next season.
  • Gary Patterson - Patterson is head coach at Texas Christian University. He took the position before TCU's 2000 appearance in the Mobile Alabama Bowl. Patterson is 142-47 in 15+ seasons at TCU. His team shared the Big 12 title in 2014, but was left out of the College Football Playoff despite a 12-1 record. He's a two-time Associated Press College Football Coach of the Year.
  • Mike Bobo - Bobo just finished his first year as head coach at Colorado State. The Rams went 7-5 in Bobo's first year there, winning their final four regular season games. He took that job after several years under Richt as offensive coordinator at UGA. The Bulldogs led the SEC in scoring in Bobo's final season as coordinator, in 2014.
