Gwinnett tennis player prepares for U.S. Open Junior Championships

- As the U.S. Open tennis tournament gets started this week up in New York, one local tennis player is preparing to play in the U.S. Open Junior Championships.

"I want to be the best I can be, live to my full potential and I keep working hard so I can reach that potential,” says Trent Bryde.

It is a lofty goal, but one that could be very reachable in the near future for the Suwanee native. The 17 year old will be playing in his second U.S. Open under 18 grand slam tournament later this month up in Flushing Meadows.

“There’s no other feeling like playing in your home country. Everyone is there to support you, no other feeling like it, its awesome,” says Bryde.

It's been a whirlwind summer for Bryde, he's competed around the world in tournaments from Morocco to Germany. He played in his first Wimbledon Jr. in July.

Bryde also made his second appearance at the BB&T tournament here in Atlanta.

“A lot of people my age don't get to play those people and see that level. I think it's prepared me to see the whole world and really prepares me for the pro level gets harder from there,” says Bryde.

Bryde is currently ranked in the top 5 in under 18 in the United States, while in the world he sits near 60 in that same age group.

Will Wright has been coaching Trent since 2007. Wright knew when he first saw the 9 year old he had potential. Thanks to a solid 2016, Wright believes Bryde’s game is in a better place at this time heading into the final grand slam event of the year.

“Probably last fall he wasn't playing well, a little burnt out, right now he's enjoying the tournament and in a good place,” says Wright.

Trent  has earned enough points to play in his first Australian Jr. Open in 2017, but his first goal is to play well up in Flushing Meadows, something he believes he is capable of doing right now.

“I am definitely going to go in their confident expecting to do well. My game is in a good place right now. I am ready to make a good run,” says Bryde.
