LINDALE, Ga. - AA Region 7. Both teams undefeated in the region going into the game and almost evenly matched. Thankfully, these two titans voted this the Game of the Week.
Will Pepperell feel the Yellowjackets sting? Or will the Dragons take what is theirs with fire and smoke from Rockmart?
The HIGH 5 crew found Pepperell Head Coach Rick Hurst putting the finishing touches on the game field Friday before the big match.
"A couch's work is never done," Hurst told HIGH 5 Sports as he spray painted a stencil.
And it was true; his job was far from done as he saw Rockmart jump his guys early. Markus Smith throw a perfect pass to J.J Jones for a touchdown.
Skip all the way to the third quarter Hurst's team down now 10-3, but Number 9, T.J. Watkins brought them back with a kickoff return bolting them ahead into Yellowjacket territory, being stopped at the 22-yard line.
The quarterback Trevor Thomas hitting, and then sprinting down to the 2-yard line which eventually led to a Dragons touchdown with the score at 10-10.
The Pepperell Dragons were on their way back to score 4-straight touchdowns. Thomas to Watkins gives them the lead, 16-10.
They get more with Tae Hammond running it in. Darien Pasley then built it to a 31-10 Dragons lead late in the fourth quarter.
The Dragons spitting fire win this big region match up 31-12 over Rockmart.
"I said 'If you're satisfied, I'm satisfied," Coach Hurst told HIGH 5's Bill Hartman what he told his team at during the half. "And they, all of them said 'Coach, we're not satisfied, we're not satisfied' they're not satisfied. We're going to take this further next week, the week after the week after the week after. It's a great group of young men. they work hard. Every time I challenge them, they step up. I'm so proud of them. So proud of them."
"I'm glad we got a team win out here. I love my teammates, I treat them like family and they are my brothers. So, this isn't just about me, it's about a team. So, it's a time thing right here," said Watkin.
Regional action continues for both teams next week. The Dragons travel to Trenton where they will try to breathe more fire on the Dade County Wolverines who are 1-3 in AA Region 7. Rockmart treks to Rome to battle the Coosa Eagles who stand at 2-2 in the region.
