DANIELSVILLE, Ga. - Could these two AAAA Region 8 teams have the most spirit, drive and determination? Well, they certainly did in voting this the HIGH 5 Game of the Week.
The Oconee County Warriors and the Madison County Red Raiders were both 6-2 overall, but only are ranked second and third in the region going into the game.
The Oconee County Warriors came out firing on all cylinders. It took them just two plays to score.
Sam Middlebrooks brought them down from the seven. Christian Casey squeezed his way into the end zone and the warriors lead 7-0.
Middlebrooks is big at 6’4” and sees the field extremely well.
The Warriors put it up 14-0 late in the first quarter.
Their third touchdown came on a slashing run by Jared Hood. Oconee County clearly has a lot of weapons and isn’t afraid to use them.
Another one of those weapons is Champ Bell who runs it into the end zone to put the Warriors up 27-0 going into the half.
The Red Raiders got on the board in the third quarter. Colby Smith found Traveon Latimore in the corner putting Madison County on a comeback.
But the 5’7’ Casey wasn’t through. He seem to run over people in a play late in the game, putting the Warriors within scoring distance. Then Middlebrooks hit Ty Paschal running away with the ball and the game.
Oconee County goes on to win it 41-8.
"Just listen to coaching and all week working and working the safeties and making the throws, not thinking about it too much," said Warriors quarterback Sam Middlebrooks.
"It was a big game for us. I was just really pleased how we come out and play coming off a loss last week and we had a great week of practice and shown how we play tonight. We were happy we got the win," said Warriors Coach Travis Noland.
Oconee County goes on to play Jefferson while Madison County hosts St. Pius X Catholic.
