Mcclelland Leads Clinch County to Class A Title in 24-7 Win

Sophomore Charles McClelland rushed 22 times for 173 yards and one touchdown to lead Clinch County to a 24-7 win over Irwin County in the Georgia High School Association's Class A Public championship game at the Georgia Dome.

McClelland's touchdown came on a 36-yard run and helped him finish the season with 1,010 yards.

Clinch County (13-1) led 12-7 at halftime on touchdown runs of 1 and 2 yards by Shannon Young, who rushed 14 times for 60 yards and finished the season with 1,610 yards. Trezman Marshall scored the other Clinch County touchdown on a 5-yard run.

Irwin County (10-3-1) got its lone score on a 93-yard run by Ziaire Andrews. Andrews carried nine times for 132 yards and D.J. Pollard rushed 17 times for 89 yards.

It was the sixth state football championship for Clinch County, which lost to Irwin County 28-12 during the regular season.
