Atlanta United supporters paint the town red

Atlanta United fans are showing their true colors ahead of Saturday's MLS Cup match.

Members of Footie Mob, an Atlanta United supporters group, painted the iconic Kirkwood sign with five red and black stripes in honor of the team this past weekend.

"It's a tradition here in Kirkwood [...] the neighbors get together and paint it for an event," explained Jason Becker, who organized the art project.  "Sometimes it can be for Halloween, Easter, whatever and I had the idea last week that we should just paint it five stripes for Atlanta United going to the Cup."

All over town, fans have Atlanta United flags draped from their front porches. SKYFOX 5 flew over Spaghetti Junction, where several billboards mention the MLS Cup, including a Bud Light ad that simply reads, "We Gon' Shine."

"This town has gone absolutely ridiculously crazy for Atlanta United and it's actually refreshing to see that happen in a city like Atlanta," said Becker.

Even Ponce City Market has gotten in on the championship fever.  Fans there can pose for pictures with a larger-than-life replica of the MLS Cup.

"Our family's really excited.  This team is really bringing the city together," said George Leach, who took a family photo with the trophy.

MLS Cup coverage begins exclusively online with an hour-long pre-match show on the FOX 5 Atlanta Facebook page, at FOX5Atlanta.com, and the FOX 5 Atlanta app.
