GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. - The Gwinnett Braves are asking fans for help as the team searches for a new name.
“The Braves name is an incredible brand, but we have learned over the last several years that there is some confusion sharing the same name and market as our Major League team,” said North Johnson, Gwinnett Braves general manager. “We have an exciting opportunity to connect even further within our community and we’re thrilled the community will have a say in our new name.”

Fans are being encouraged to suggest a local name, along with an explanation of "why their suggestion embodies Gwinnett."
"What we want our fans to do is to really give it some thought," said Johnson. "And think about you know, what's unique about Gwinnett? You know, what would be a great name for us to tie in not only a baseball team, but also Gwinnett and all the wonderful things it has to offer?"
Submissions will be taken until 5 p.m. on Friday, June 2. The team will choose the top 5-8 names with the help of Brandiose, the company behind many of the recent minor league name changes including the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp and the New Orleans Baby Cakes.
According to the Braves' AAA minor-league franchise, the fan whose submission leads to the team's new name will receive two season tickets for the 2018 season. The four runners up will get merchandise with the new name and logo.
The Gwinnett Braves said they will list the top names chosen on the team's website for voting from June 19 through July 3. The winning name and new team logo will be unveiled this fall.
