Teacher surprised with prestigious award
Banneker High School 12th-Grade English Teacher Matthew Patterson is one of four national winners of the Fishman Prize. This award recognizes the nation's most effective teachers working in high-need public schools. There were thousands of nominations and more than 800 applicants.
Patterson receives $25,000 and a one of a kind summer residency.
He and the other three winners will meet with national education leaders to discuss some of today's toughest issues they face in schools.
